Funerals and Cars and the Flu

Oh yes it has been eventful as always. Last weekend was a long holiday weekend which was much needed. Every long weekend we have had did not result in rest as I have traveled to Nairobi on each of the last two long weekends. So yes I did my best at vegging out! It was even more needed since I got a cold or the flu or a combination of the both. Practically every American in my office has been attacked by this same thing. I feel better but it just seems to be clinging onto me! It triggered the worst asthma attack that I have had since 2006. I was steroided out last week which must be the reason why I have the onset of a very long black hair growing out my chin (or is it just age)...tweezers where are you?

I got the best present of news this week -- MY CAR IS HERE. I saw it with my very own eyes today in the embassy motor pool lot. I paid my processing fees and just have to wait for my license plates. They are hoping to release to me on Friday...oh please oh please! I almost hugged it I was so excited but then after seeing the layer of dirt opted to preserve my white shirt. Speaking of white shirts...I find it interesting that in a place with so much mud, dirt and mess so many people wear white. And I mean bleached white!

So I have been to a wedding already so why not head to a funeral? One of the boxing coaches died this week. So we headed to the funeral last night. It is kind of like the Catholic multiple days of mourning. He is going to be buried today so yesterday was a mourning/viewing. So first off, I do not do viewings! No offense to the dead but if I did not know you in life then I sure don't want to see you in death. Secondly, if I do know you in life, no offense but get cremated!

Okay...back on track...

So the interesting thing about this funeral was that it was a tribute to the coach. They spent the evening with different coaches and boxers training and doing mini fights. They had little kids who are just learning to some of the boxers training for the match on 7 Feb. It was really quite fun so long as you tuned out the wailing ladies hoovering over the casket.

Well, got get back to checking my email.
