Dingy Americans!

So on Friday afternoon my friend Monica and I are out and about taking care of a few errands. We decided to stop at the duty free store for a quick gander at the spirits section. Well you see, the parking is rather challenging to get into so we opted to park outside of the gates. This required driving on the sidewalk to avoid another car and a truck size hole. This pleasant looking older gentleman was walking on the sidewalk with what looked like momentary fear of what might happen next and if he would soon be under the car. But, to his relief Monica decided to just park on the sidewalk just short of this man. I gave him the "sorry we are just dingy Americans" look which got a chuckle. As we began to exit I hear an "o crap" from my left as Monica sees that a policeman is inbound. Luckily he gave us little hassle and just wanted the car moved off the sidewalk.

They are very particular about pedestrian areas. If you are even an inch into a crosswalk you will get nasty finger shaking from pedestrians and a lot of hassle from the police if you do not back up. The odd part of the whole story is the pedestrians don't walk in the crosswalks or on the sidewalks for the most part. If there is open walking area it is free game for feet. Today a kid was playing soccer on the main boulevard - why not!
